Corey Perry has been chasing a Stanley Cup ring for the past few seasons. With stops in Tampa Bay, Montreal, and Dallas in recent seasons Perry has been a good depth piece helping teams to compete. He has shown he is okay with playing fewer minutes in the lineup if the team is good.
Now he has been sent to Chicago to mentor Connor Bedard and their young core. However, due to the fact that he is on a one-year deal if the Blackhawks struggle like many expect Perry could be available at the deadline.
Perry has been linked to Toronto for the past couple of years now and it seems like this year it could finally come to fruition. With the Leafs in need of physical forwards who can score, Corey Perry could be the perfect addition. He likely would not cost much due to his age and lower production over the last few seasons. A mid-round pick or solid prospect combo would probably get the job done. Now of course Chicago would need to eat half of his salary for the trade to be concluded but we've seen with the McCabe and O'Reilly trades it won't be much of a problem.
As for what Perry can provide to the Leafs he can be relied on for 20 to 30 points a year and a physical presence on the ice. As for in the locker room of course Perry has been known to be a good teammate and leader who could help the Leafs young core continue to push through their playoff struggles.
