The NHL's 2023 summer was one full of speculation, and while we are still yet to get a resolution to the William Nylander saga, it appears that it may end up being an anti-climactic one.
No trade incoming?
After recent reports, it appeared as though it was just a matter of time until Nylander was moved by Toronto, and now, his future with the Maple Leafs seems to be as secure as ever.
According to The Athletic, Nylander and his team are open to negotiating throughout the 2023-24 season, as he believes it won't be a distraction and he has no desire to play anywhere except in Toronto.
Future set?
Perhaps the biggest reason for Nylander's departure to now seem farfetched is the reported raise that the salary cap will be getting next summer, and if the two sides can come to terms on a reasonable AAV, this should benefit both parties in a big way.
Ultimately, it makes sense for both parties to stay together, as this has been a great relationship and should continue to be one for many years, and with the cap rising and Nylander's desire to be a Maple Leaf, a trade anytime soon just isn't happening.
