Auston Matthews missed today's practice ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs' game against the Washington Capitals scheduled for tonight.

David Alter shared the update on X, live from the team's morning skate.

Auston Matthews misses the Maple Leafs' morning skate ahead of rematch against the Washington Capitals.

After many key players were forced to miss games in the past few weeks, such as Mitch Marner, Tyler Bertuzzi and Morgan Rielly, it looks like Auston Matthews could be the next to be sidelined.

"As Leafs morning skate begins, Auston Matthews is absent. "

Without Marner and Matthews, the top six would take a major hit.

However, it doesn't mean that we won't see Matthews in action tonight.

Per Mark Masters:

"This alignment at Leafs morning skate suggests Auston Matthews is likely to play

Mitch Marner, who is not playing, filling in on the top line."

A tough challenge ahead for the Maple Leafs in crucial game against the Washington Capitals.

Eight days have passed from the Leafs' crushing 7-3 victory over the Caps 7-3 and they are set to meet again tonight in Toronto.

Since then, the Capitals have been on fire, winning their last three games, whereas the Leafs lost two of their last three, including a terrible night on Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.

The rookie goaltender Joseph Woll should get his third straight start and try to prove that he can be relied on for the playoffs.

It's definitely a tough challenge for the Leafs in this crucial part of the season. Tonight, we will see how the team shows its true character, and if they can deliver a performance worthy of the playoffs.

Stay tuned.
