It's unfortunate that Auston Matthews has found himself again with another injury, seemingly re-aggravated his previous injury that kept him out of the lineup for nine games this year.
But with questions surrounding the nature of the injury and so much mystery surrounding it, we have a bit more proof as to what may have caused the re-aggravation.
It Might Be Auston Matthews' Hip
By nature of the video above, it looks like Matthews could be seen clutching his hip towards the end of the video, a potential indicator of something that's affected him all season.
Even worrying more so is the fact that Matthews relies heavily on his hip flexors and muscles in order to maintain his blistering speed. Something hasn't been right since he returned and he looked a step or two behind; something a hip injury would no doubt factor into.
Maple Leafs goaltender Matt Murray knows all about hip injuries as he underwent a bilateral hip surgery before making his return on Friday after 638 days away from the NHL.
If Matthews is to miss any extended time, with his status questionable for Monday, and him being out on Saturday, the Leafs shouldn't be too concerned given that they performed great without him earlier, posting a 7-2-0 record and proving they are more than just their captain.
On the season, Matthews has 11 goals and 12 assists, a far cry from the production he and fans are normally privy to, and a huge decline from the historic 69-goal campaign a year ago.
With Matthews possibly taking another trip to the IR, GM Brad Treliving may think it best to intervene for his captain when it comes to his representation at the 4 Nations Face-Off as well, not wanting to risk the playoffs for an exhibition-style tournament.
With Toronto heading into the Christmas break after Monday, it'll be a great time for Matthews to get the rest and attention he needs.
The team can't afford another setback with their captain and fans are getting frustrated the team can't figure it out with their superstar.
