Never one to shy away from making last-second changes depending on his gut feeling, Craig Berube does what he feels is necessary to put the best lineup out he can.
While not always successful, Toronto is off to a solid start this year. Going into a must-win game against Winnipeg, there will be more changes made after a crushing loss to the New York Islanders. Berube hinted there are some game-time decisions, but kept coy when asked what they could be.
With Berube being generous enough to give us the gift of who will be starting for the team, there's no indication who could be put in or taken out; especially if he wants to really shake things up.
Toronto is coming off a brutal 6-3 loss to the Islanders, and it was a rough showing from all the Maple Leafs last game. Besides William Nylander's two goals, the Leafs looked stagnant all night and clearly Berube wants a change.
With the game shortly happening, it's unknown exactly what changes are made, but if Berube is going to make a big difference, there could be a bunch of swaps happening as the team heads into a crucial must-win game.
Well if fans were expecting a big shuffle they certainly got it as Berube tried his best to give the Maple Leafs a brand new look on Monday afternoon.
The changes see a bunch of swaps, with Max Domi and Nick Robertson getting second line duties with William Nylander, Ryan Reaves is scratched in favor of Pontus Holmberg, and Max Pacioretty skates with Bobby McMann and David Kampf on line three.
The defense looks different too, as Toronto is sliding Oliver Ekman-Larsson into the top spot with Morgan Rielly, and moving his shutdown duo of Jake McCabe and Chris Tanev to the second pair.
It is an interesting bit of lineup shuffling, but Berube is hoping a drastic change will bring a dominant win against the tough Winnipeg Jets.
