With Toronto coming off a rough 4-2 loss against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, the team looks to get back to work on Sunday night in Buffalo as they take on the Sabres; a team notorious for being a thorn in the Maple Leafs' side historically.
Their offense looked out of sorts Saturday night, and there were a few glaring holes that Berube felt needed to be filled in. According to David Alter, there have been some big changes to the roster in anticipation for Sunday's game.
Toronto will see the return of Ryan Reaves, Nick Robertson, and Philippe Myers to the lineup as the team tries a different game plan to get back in the win column.
Fraser Minten, Pontus Holmberg, and Conor Timmins are the casualties of the lineup change, and while the latter two haven't had the most spectacular years, Minten was doing well but perhaps Berube is finding some problems after the honeymoon phase wore off.
Berube is looking to try and add a different look to his team and it starts with adding Robertson and Reaves back in the lineup. Whether it's to try and spark an offensive outburst with Robertson, or spark a fracas using Reaves; the Maple Leafs need to change something.
Bringing in Myers also adds a bit more size and offensive versatility to their blueline, and with the team so high on Myers they want to give him a proper look.
It's been a struggle for the Leafs to find offense so removing Minten and Holmberg isn't the most savvy option however Berube has some stubbornness attached to his coaching style, and will stick with a player regardless as he often has with Reaves this season.
Combined, both men have two goals and three points, and although they've missed a number of games due to healthy scratches and suspensions, it's still worrying that they haven't picked it up a third into the season.
Craig Berube is making some big changes and Toronto hopes it can pay off, otherwise they head into a Dallas game with two losses, their star goalie out, and no clue where to go next offensively.
