Toronto's new head coach Craig Berube revealed the true reason about why he accepted to replace Sheldon Keefe with the Maple Leafs.

Craig Berube was reportedly one of the most sought-after available coach across the NHL, and the Toronto Maple Leafs managed to land him.

The Leafs' general manager Brad Treliving even revealed in a press conference that he interviewed nine candidates for the coaching position, but it alway got back to Berube:

"Obviously, during that time, I had a chance to speak and meet with Craig, and [I] spent a lot of time with Craig. And as I went through the process with other individuals, it kept coming back to Craig."

Berube obviously has a ton of experience in the NHL, both as a player and as a coach. He knows what it takes to win, having won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019.

In a recent interview, he revealed that "one of the main attractions" of working in Toronto was the core player group. Berube believes he can build on this moving forward and go all the way:

"The core player group is great here. That was definitely one of the attractions to come and coach this team. If you look at the roster, there's great players and it's a great opportunity to build a team that can move forward and become something."

Coaches don't have the opportunity to work with superstars such as Auston Matthews and William Nylander every day. We can understand why it helped him make a decision.
