Leafs head coach Craig Berube gave an updated status on two of their injured forwards who have been out for the last several weeks. Ahead of Thursday's game against Anaheim, Berube said that forward Bobby McMann is "close to returning" to game action.
Joshua Kloke of The Athletic speculated a return for McMann could come as early as Sunday vs the Buffalo Sabres.
Berube also added that forward David Kampf is still not close to his return date, and it appears his return date is still unknown.
This info was relayed by David Alter of The Hockey News, adding to Kloke's speculation.
McMann has not played for the Toronto Maple Leafs since suffering a lower-body injury against the Florida Panthers back in late November.
Kampf has been out since mid-November with a lower-body injury. Both McMann & Kampf have been seen skating for the Leafs in this morning's skate.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, despite the ongoing injury issues to their forward group that have plagued the early part of their season have continued to be a winning team, currently second in the Atlantic Division with a 17-9-2 record this season.
The Leafs for extended periods of time have been without top forwards, including captain Auston Matthews, who missed weeks with an upper-body injury..
Also having since returned after missing time included forwards Matthew Knies, Max Domi, & Max Pacioretty.
McMann has 6 goals and 7 points in 21 games played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2024-25 season.
Kampf has three points in 18 games for Toronto this season.
The Leafs, who have kept purposefully quiet on player injuries' will likely not give a full update on the status of McMann and Kampf until they are officially ready to return.
But the optimism seems to be trending in the right direction for McMann soon if things are as positive as they appear to be and Toronto will no doubt enjoy having McMann back in action.
