Devastating news for Leafs fans regarding Nazem Kadri
The Nazem Kadri, Calgary Flames situation initially appeared to have opened up a significant opportunity for the Maple Leafs, but the door may have officially closed on a potential return to Toronto.
Very recently, it seemed as though Kadri was looking forward to waiving his no movement clause in order to facilitate a trade from the Flames to the Leafs, hence reuniting him back with some of his former teammates.
The Maple Leafs are in search of a centreman, but unfortunately it seems as though they will need to look elsewhere, as Kadri appears to have no interest in wanting to waive his no movement clause to join Toronto.
Do you think the Flames will look to move Nazem Kadri? TSN Calgary Bureau Chief @SalimValji joins @JayOnraitto discuss.
Leafs fans never wanted Kadri to go a few years ago, so they would gladly welcome him back with open arms. It seems that this will only be possible in their dreams, as this trade was not going to happen in reality. One big reason for this is Kadri's salary.
He is owed $7 million over the next 5 seasons, and the Leafs don't seem to have that cap room, unless they look to trade Marner, who has been at the centre of other rumors recently.
Barry Trotz tells @JaredStillman there's truth to the rumors of Preds being in on some big names on trade market.
He mentions a "prominent player in Toronto" as "people trying to connect dots" but also lists reasons why someone like Mitch Marner would want to come to NSH. Leafs fans can only dream of seeing Kadri in their blue and white uniform once again, however it is looking more and more unlikely that possibility is ever going to happen again.
