Heartbreaking news strikes Teemu Selanne's son, Leevi Selanne
Today sad news has come down for Teemu Selanne and his son Leevi regarding Leevi's professional hockey career.
Teemu Selanne is one of the greats in the history of hockey. With this in mind, it is no surprise that his son Leevi Selanne has followed in his footsteps. Leevi Selanne grew up in the United States playing youth hockey in the NAHL with the Texas Brahmas. Eventually, he earned a spot on NCAA Division III Curry College's hockey roster.
We're kicking off the week by introducing F Leevi Selanne, younger brother of current Colonel Eetu. Leevi joins us from the Texas Jr. Brahmas of the NA3HL (@TXBrahmas @NA3HL). We look forward to having two Selanne's on campus soon! #NewColonels
After 2 seasons with Curry College Leevi Selanne turned pro this season signing with Hokki Kajaani in Finnish Mestis for the 2023-24 season. This looked to be the start of a promising young career for Leevi Selanne. However, after one season with Hokki Kajaani, he has been released.
Note: the following was translated from Finnish.
"The player agreement between Leevi Selanne and Kajaani Hockey has been terminated in agreement for the 2024-2025 season. The option for the next season, that was in Atte Peltonen's contract, was also not used. We want to thank Leevi and Atte for their time in Kajaani and wish them all the best for the future! 🤝
Our own parents Samppa Kemppainen and Noa Tuomainen will also represent Hockey in the 2024-2025 season according to their agreements."
This now puts a potential shadow over the son of the former Anaheim Ducks legend. In his time in Mestis Leevi Selanne played 23 games and tallied 4 total points. He and his family will now likely look for a place where Leevi Selanne can show off his offensive talents more effectively to revitalize his pro hockey career.
