Long-time hockey icon Don Cherry took to X today to comment about the firing of Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe.

Cherry, who is seen by many as either a controversial figure or a Canadian hockey icon, has shared sympathy about Keefe's firing, but he also asks a surprising question to Leafs fans.

Cherry, who was a player from 1954 to 1972 and a coach from 1971 to 1980 has shared that he knows what it's like to be fired as a head coach. Of course, Cherry didn't last long as a coach, spending just nine years in the gig before transitioning to an on-air personality for Hockey Night in Canada on Coach's Corner.

Cherry asked fans if the goalies were switched, who would win the series? He followed up that comment by implying a good coach is made up of a good goalie. While that may be true in markets that have a star goaltender, sometimes a good coach is purely a good coach.

It seems that Cherry's comments are more implying that Ilya Samsonov might have been the problem for the Leafs. However, if you score more than two goals in a game, you're more likely to win the game. The Leafs scored more than two goals just once against the Boston Bruins.
