Many players and staff of the Toronto Maple Leafs have left for other teams this summer, but there is one in particular that has really affected Easton Cowan.

Cowan was a first round draft pick in 2023, and didn't spend all that much time with former director of amateur scouting Wes Clark, but Cowan revealed at the World Junior Summer Showcase that Clark had a huge impact on his development.

"Yeah, I was actually heartbroken when I saw that," Cowan said. "He was one of the guys who believed in me and drafted me. It's really unfortunate, I sent him a text. He's still sending me motivational quotes and still helping me out. It's hard to say no to a good job so I'm just happy for him and hopefully see him down the road at some point."

GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins Kyle Dubas was the one who poached his former co-worker Clark, as the Penguins are re-tooling and need to bolster their prospect pool.

No doubt that Cowan is disappointed to see his good friend go, but he has bigger things to focus on now, as he not only attempts to make the Leafs roster in the fall, but will also look to claim a spot on Team Canada for the World Junior Championship tournament that will begin on Boxing Day.

Easton Cowan has yet to play an NHL game, however he had great numbers in the OHL last season with the London Knights. Cowan scored 34 goals and 62 assists in 54 games.
