Toronto Maple Leafs prospect given new opportunity via trade
A Toronto Maple Leafs draft prospect is on the move. The BCHL's Nanaimo Clippers have traded Leafs 2024 7th round pick Matthew Lahey to the Coquitlam Express along with D Cooper Wilson and Future Considerations in exchange for LW Luke Lavery.
Matt Lahey, a defenseman, was drafted 200th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. The 6'4 Lahey had 2 goals and 19 points in 54 games for the Express in the 2023-24 season.
Although Lahey is on the move, there isn't a guarantee on him playing for Nanaimo. Lahey is expected to spend next season in the USHL with the Fargo Force, joining the NCAA's Clarkson University Golden Knights in 2025.
Cooper Wilson, 18, acquired by Coquitlam, had 6 points in 39 games for Nanaimo this past season.
Luke Lavery, 19, a native of Nanaimo, previously played two seasons for the Express. Lavery is a NCAA commit of Providence College, and had 22 goals and 46 points in 54 games for Coquitlam in 2023-24.
