After suffering a brutal collision after his historic 56-game point streak, Easton Cowan' status for the World Juniors has seemingly been confirmed.

The junior hockey world has been taken for a ride with Easton Cowan, the Maple Leafs' prospect who has storming his way through the history books. His 56-game point streak in an unofficial record, and while the OHL might not recognize it, fans certainly do.

So after making history, Cowan was on the receiving end of a brutal collision with Oshawa Generals player Zack Sandhu, and ended up leaving the game. A heartbreaking stamp on such a wonderful night. It put Cowan's status for the World Juniors in doubt too, as camp is right around the corner.

But according to Hockey Canada, Easton Cowan is set to attend the World Juniors however is not expected to participate.

What This Means For Team Canada and Easton Cowan

First and foremost, it means that Canada would be down one of its best offensive sparkplugs, and Cowan was expected to play a big part for the team.

It would be a terrible loss for Team Canada to lose out on Cowan, although they do have quite a bit of firepower without Cowan as names like Jett Luchanko, Porter Martone, and Beckett Sennecke have also been selected.

It may not be all a loss though, as The Athletic's Joshua Kloke commented on Cowan potentially playing and the prognosis seems to be some pretty good news too.

If the injury is whiplash as Kloke alludes to, it's a fairly rare injury in terms of hockey, or rarely reported. The good news is that there seems to be no sign of a concussion and Cowan doesn't look too worse for wear even if he's not 100%.

The Maple Leafs drafted Cowan 28th overall in 2023, and there's a good reason the team took a chance on the young forward. In his four seasons with the London Knights, Cowan has 70 goals and 109 assists in 149 games including that 56-game point streak where he scored 94 points over that span.

It's a great sign that Cowan avoided the worst, and while his status for Team Canada is still unofficial, as there's a chance Easton can play if he gets healthy in time.

The main focus is that he is going to be okay and be a great teammate as only he can be, either on or off the ice.
