Elliotte Friedman Reveals The Toronto Maple Leafs' Plan For Joseph Woll
Joseph Woll got injured in December and there's been a new development concerning his return to the NHL.
Friedman Reveals the Leafs Plan for Goalie Joseph Woll Following Great Performance in the AHL
Last Friday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll played his first game since the high-ankle sprain he got a few months ago. With the Marlies, he played very well, earning a 4-1 win, with a .973 SV%.
Woll proved that he's ready to get back in the NHL.
The insider Elliotte Friedman discussed about the Leafs' plans for the goalie in a recent appearance on Hockey Night in Canada.
"Joseph Woll. Close? Yes. He played last night for the Toronto Marlies in Laval, and he was very good. 36 of 37 saves.
And not only that, but Laval did not make his night very easy for a player in his first game after a high ankle sprain, Laval made it tough on him. They knew everybody would be watching, and those players sure did their best to get noticed.
And, he was very good. They didn't play him today, but he's very close, and we'll see what Toronto does in goal. They've got a couple days to figure this out. They go with three. Do they go with two? But Woll is close."
With the way that Ilya Samsonov and Martin Jones have been playing lately, it's likely that we'll see a three-goalie rotation for the rest of the season.
However, Brad Treliving could also decide to part ways with one of them. Considering the high demand for goalies across the league, everything seems possible.
We should know in the coming days what happens with Woll and this whole situation will be interesting to follow.
More to come.
