Today a new report has come out revealing that there are five early frontrunners who are looking to acquire Timothy Liljegren from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

This afternoon the Timothy Liljegren trade saga has finally picked up a little bit. A report from Josh Wegman of The Score has announced that there are five teams that are looking into Timothy Liljegren.

The speculation continues to build after Timothy Liljegren was a scratch on opening night. Now Liljegren has been given the ability to explore a trade from the organization.

The five teams are split between the West and the East with three being out West and the other two are familiar foes of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The report from Josh Wegman listed the Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Dallas Stars as the teams who are showing interest.

With this report now out speculation can begin about where Timothy Liljegren might end up and if it would be a good fit.

Which of these five teams fits Timothy Liljegren the best

Each of the five teams mentioned as early contenders for Timothy Liljegren are either playoff contenders from last season or teams on the fringe of contending. Each team could use Timothy Liljegren but which would use him the best?

The two organizations where Timothy Liljegren would likely have the most success of these teams are the Florida Panthers and the Dallas Stars. Both teams are in need of depth on defense and have shown an ability to take on defensemen at a low point and fix them.

The Florida Panthers seem to each season have a player they claim off of waivers or trade very little for and turn into a reclamation project. This could once again be the case with Timothy Liljegren. He is a puck-moving defenseman which the Florida Panthers have been missing since Brandon Montour left in free agency.

As for the Dallas Stars, it is a similar story. The Dallas Stars are exceptional at developing talent once getting them within the organization. Timothy Liljegren came into the NHL with a lot of hype and promise. If there is a team who could bring that out it is the Dallas Stars.

Many of the other teams mentioned could make things work with Timothy Liljegren. He would be an upgrade in each of these lineups but the Penguins, Kings, and Oilers all have spotty track records of trading for players and helping them flourish after.

As the situation continues to develop we will pass along the latest information about Timothy Liljegren's eventual new home.
