If there is one predominant issue that has haunted the Maple Leafs for years, it is the lack of depth scoring. When so much money is committed to the core, the players around them need to pick up the slack.
Unfortunately, over the last ~2.5 months, the Leafs have lost most of their depth scoring, with Max Domi's four goals leading the pack. The most shocking, however, is Tyler Bertuzzi's one sole goal since December 4th, a glaring problem due to his expensive $5.5M contract.
Bertuzzi one goal since December 1st, twenty seven games for $5.5M. If your not putting the puck in the net what the hell are you doing?
You better be a shut down man, an energy man, a physical body punishing guy, a PKer supreme, blocking shots. You better do all that stuff, but no.
The Core 4 has to go out and do all that sh*t too. Whether you want to blame Keefe for putting the load on them and not giving them the opportunity. The production just isn't there from the depth players on the front end at all."
Something Needs to Change for the Toronto Maple Leafs Soon as the Trade Deadline Approaches
If Brad Treliving can't make a change, this team will continue to stall. Either change the coach, or change the players. At this point, you may have to change both.
