Former Maple Leafs Kelly Chase provides update on his cancer battle
The former Toronto Maple Leafs' enforcer Kelly Chase provided an update on his cancer battle.
Chase, who spent eleven seasons in the NHL between 1989 and 2000, is remembered for being one of the toughest enforcers in that time. The forward played 458 games and tallied an impressive 2017 penalty minutes, as well as 53 points.
He's currently facing the toughest challenge yet: cancer.
Back in November, he was disgnosed with a leukemia and was ready to go into battle once again.
In an update, Chase shared that he started the fifth round of chemotherapy.
Here's what he posted:
"Round 5. Here we go. Just shook off the elbow pads and I'm about to punch this f&:/«kr right in the mouth. #l'mnotforeveryone"
"You're tough as nails Chaser. We're all behind you! Keep fighting 👊❤️ - Max Domi" His tenacity is a true example for anyone battling that terrible illness.
"In November, Kelly Chase was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia.
Five months later, he shared the ice with his three sons in a charity hockey game he helped organize. The game raised more than $400,000 for cancer research (and counting). #stlblues"
Our thoughts go with Kelly and his family during these tough times.
