CityNews and 680 NewsRadio do a feature every week where they put the spotlight on what they call the "Athlete of the Week". This week, it was the grand-daughter of former Maple Leafs legendary coach Mike Murphy.
Brooklyn Murphy is Mike Murphy's grand-daughter, and she is about to enter Grade 9. She has fallen in love with hockey, and loves being involved in the game.
Her school just named her Athlete of the Year. This is no surprise, considering the great Mike Murphy is her grand-father, and has likely given her a pointer or two, or hundreds, on how to excel at the sport.
Mike Murphy was the coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1990s, and following this he also had various roles working for the National Hockey League.
Prior to all of this, he was a fantastic hockey player, having suited up for the St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings from 1971 until 1983. In his 831 career NHL games, Mike Murphy scored 238 goals and had 318 assists.
