Also placed on waivers is Los Angeles Kings defenseman Caleb Jones, a former Blackhawk, and Givani Smith from the San Jose Sharks.
Anderson, 26, has just one point in 12 games for the Blackhawks in the 2024-25 season, the first major move after the team fired head coach Luke Richardson on Thursday. Anderson played in parts of three seasons with the Leafs, appearing in 20 games for Toronto, having 2 goals and 3 points with the club.
Anderson was originally a third round pick of the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, 73rd overall.

After three seasons in Toronto, Anderson was traded to Chicago in the deal that sent Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty to the Leafs in a deal that sent the Blackhawks multiple picks and Pavel Gogolev.
Anderson has played in 91 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, having 9 goals, 15 assists, & 24 points in three seasons with the team, with 5 goals and 17 points in 55 games. In his NHL career, Anderson has played in 163 games, with 19 goals and 21 assists, & 40 points.
The former Leafs forward has represented the United States internationally at the IIHF World Junior Championships.
Anderson won a gold medal in 2017 with the Americans, as well as a silver medal in 2014 at the U17's, and bronze medals at the 2018 World Juniors, and the 2016 U18's.
He was a member of the United States National Team Development Program (NTDP), and played two seasons in the NCAA with Minnesota-Duluth.
