Good news for Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs finally pushed past the first-round of the playoffs in 2022-23, and now it appears they're ready to lock in a key piece of their team as the expectations and pressure grows.
Toronto's biggest star
Coming into this off-season, the Leafs had to accomplish many things, with nothing being more important that the extension for Auston Matthews, who's looking to get paid in a big way.
While some are worried the Leafs won't be able to afford No. 34, it's all but a foregone conclusion that he will remain in Toronto, and now, TSN's Chris Johnston has given Leafs fans a fantastic update.
Deal incoming?
On the latest edition of 'The CJ Show', Johnston reiterated that Matthews will be signing long-term, but is waiting to find the best way to help the Leafs win, with a potential timetable revealed.
According to Johnston, Auston Matthews extension should follow the same timeframe as Nathan MacKinnon, who signed his deal on the eve of training camp, giving Leafs fans potentially just five more weeks to wait before their big star is locked in for a long time to come.
