The Maple Leafs aren't certain to have Mitch Marner back with the looming threat of a trade, with him eligible for NHL free agency next season, but it seems incoming Craig Berube wants to make things work with Marner and the Leafs.

Craig Berube, hired as the Toronto Maple Leafs Head Coach after the team let go of Sheldon Keefe, appeared to have been spotted recently having coffee with the Leafs star, who has been recently linked to trade rumors, as his contract ends next season.

Of course, the ultimate decision on the Leafs choosing the direction in which to go with regarding Marner will fall on General Manager Brad Treliving, the potential has for Berube to at the very least have a say in the matter, and a benefit to Toronto if he feels he can get the best in the winger.

One account, who's validity has not been verified, claimed Berube would like to coach Marner, although it's accuracy isn't, it aligns with reports of Berube believing in the Leafs locker room.

Ran into Paul at TPC Toronto, and he reiterated the desire for Berube to coach Mitch.
Seems internally the Leafs want to see what a new coach can do.

Marner, 27 had 29 goals, 56 assists & 85 points in 69 games with Toronto this season. Marner has expressed a desire to stay in Toronto for next season. His no-move clause means he has to approve a trade to another team if offered.
