Joseph Woll Sends a Heartfelt Message to Leafs Fans Following Western Road Trip
Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll had some very kind words for fans out West, as it gave the team a bit of familiarity.
Although the Maple Leafs lost 2-1 to Vancouver on Saturday, it was a successful road trip -- the team took three of four games including wins against both Edmonton and Calgary.
But while they were far from home, the atmosphere made it feel as if they were home. It's something the team can appreciate, as goaltender Joseph Woll explained post-game:
The three Canadian cities we played, it's almost like a home game. So, that's a testament to our fans, and it's awesome they get out here and support us, Woll said.
All I can say is, when that energy is there and when our fans are rooting like that, it changes the game for us, and it brings so much momentum. So, I love it. Keep it going.
So do Toronto's fans make a difference on the road? Let's take a brief look.
Toronto's Success Out West: How The Maple Leafs Fare vs. Western Conference
It always feels a bit weird when the Maple Leafs play out west, as more often than not the team is centralized in Canada and North America.
But when they do head off on a road trip, they seem to do pretty well for themselves. Here's a look at Toronto's all-time record vs. teams out West (not exclusively Western Conference).
- Anaheim: 34-12-5-2
- Calgary: 73-63-12-6
- Edmonton: 64-46-8-3
- Los Angeles: 69-67-21-3
- San Jose: 28-23-5-3
- Seattle: 7-1-0
- Vancouver: 68-71-22-4
Besides the Canucks, Toronto seems to have a fairly solid record against teams out West, and given just how popular the Maple Leafs are then fans aren't hard to come by.
This season, Toronto is 7-2-0 against the teams listed above with only Vancouver handing them the two losses.
Woll didn't get the victory against the Canucks, but it's a great sign to see him acknowledge and appreciate the fans -- many of them who traveled long distances to see their favorite team.
So perhaps it's a little bit of luck, and a lot of fan support, but one thing is for certain -- it won't be hard to find Leafs fans no matter where you look.
