A lucky situation for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they were thankful to not lose one but two players against the Devils late in the second period, an incident that would have been yet another bounce of bad luck for the Leafs.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have already dealt with multiple knock-ups that have caused the team to be handicapped throughout the season, many injuries being the result of bad luck, including the recent injury to star forward John Tavares who was injured in practice and was unable to play against New Jersey.
The Leafs were forced to replace Tavares with rookie Fraser Minten due to the injury, although Minten did not play against the Devils.
Auston Matthews has also missed two major chunks of times with Toronto in the team's lineup due to a lingering injury, the same injury that kept him out the first time sidelining him once again shortly after.
This time, Toronto has avoided the dreaded injury bug that has continue to plague them for this season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs nearly lost forward Matthew Knies and Philippe Myers to injury late in the second period against the New Jersey Devils.
Knies was knocked into the Leafs net by Devils forward Timo Meier, with Myers as well being knocked down in the impact.
Where Myers was able to get up quickly, Knies was down for a short period, although later able to make his way off on his own.
Both Knies and Myers remained on the Leafs bench, and stayed on the ice for Toronto in the third period.
Knies, a key forward for Toronto this season, has 16 goals and 27 points in 43 games this season.
Myers, a 6'5 RHD, has three points in 17 games this season.
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, a break finally comes after a season with a continuous depleted lineup struggling to keep itself at full health.
