Auston Matthews found himself in a bit of hilarious controversy as the captain was subject to some less than favorable images thanks to Google's verification system.

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has been the biggest tech company over the past decade and provides billions with access to up to date news, and the ability to look up basically anything their heart desires (within reason of course).

But the tech giant isn't exactly perfect, especially with some of their AI and verification systems. Often times you can find humorous tidbits of Google AI giving some less than serious answers to some questions leading to a chuckle here or there.

Though with those imperfections can come some serious implications, and now they are at the center of some controversy regarding Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews.

Auston Matthews Trolled On Google As Company Gets Multiple Players Wrong

If you were to search Auston Matthews' name into the Google search engine, you'd find your typical overview of the Leafs captain. His age, birthplace, HockeyDB page, and any other relevant news.

However if you take a closer look at the initial image that pops up, you'll notice Matthews sporting a seriously funky hairdo.

The photo is an obvious photoshopped image of the captain sporting a ridiculous new head of hair showing it poofed up and looking like something out of the history books.

The image originated on Reddit where a particular Maple Leafs troll was able to somehow convince Google that his photo was the legitimate version of Matthews' profile. However, Matthews isn't the only one who is dealing with some inaccuracies.

Former NHLer Anthony Stewart found himself the target of some disrespect albeit hopefully not intentional, as former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque's picture takes center stage when searching for Stewart.

Whether or not there was some behind the scenes manipulation in order to get the pictures up on the search, or if it was a legitimate mistake by Google AI when trying to gather images, and merely selected from a pool of pictures previously posted and decided on the incorrect ones.

It remains to be seen if Google is going to change things after being called out by Stewart, but for now the Matthews side is silent so perhaps a trip to the barber shop is in the captain's future.
