Despite suffering some gruesome injuries over the last year, Max Pacioretty appears to have a spot on the Leafs roster, as was confirmed by GM Brad Treliving.

Max Pacioretty says he's over the Achilles injuries, and that he can still be a serious force of nature on the ice. GM Brad Treliving appears to believe him, as he assured fans once again today that Max Pacioretty will definitely be at training camp.

The former Habs captain inked a PTO with the Maple Leafs on Wednesday and on Thursday, Leafs GM Brad Treliving shed a little light on how that deal came to be while nodding to the possible upside of having an established scorer like Pacioretty in the fold.

Max Pacioretty has a well-documented history of injuries. He returned to action in January 2023, for the Carolina Hurricanes after rupturing his Achilles while training in August 2022. The team had welcomed him back and he scored three goals in five games, but that brief comeback re-injured the same Achilles.

Last season for the Washington Capitals, he managed to play in 47 games to reach four goals and 19 assists. He added just one assist in four playoff games with Washington, a pace well off what you'd want from a player of that caliber.

For now, the Leafs will bank on a complete recovery and strong training camp to get Max Pacioretty scoring once more. A guaranteed season in Toronto, though, it is not for the 35-year-old. It will really be up to his performance at camp to see if he can carve out a spot in a Leafs lineup that is this stacked with talent up front already. That means more than just another season to Pacioretty, who might view this as an outstanding chance to prove himself once more and be finally done with the Achilles nightmare for good.
