NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed today that the Minnesota Wild are listening to offers on both Fillip Gustavsson and former 8th overall pick Marco Rossi. This is an intriguing opportunity for another team to swoop in and grab two young players that still have a lot of potential.
One Leafs fan proposed a deal that would bring both players back to Toronto in addition to a couple more assets. The Leafs may very well be trying to trade Mitch Marner this summer, so a deal like this could be two birds with one stone for Brad Treliving.
The fan reaction from Wild fans was largely unenthused though. Fillip Gustavsson has been great at times, but is somewhat inconsistent. Furthermore, Trading Rossi would be a tough pill to swallow as the team drafted him 8th overall. Those typically are not players you like to trade.
That being said, this could be an opportunity for the Leafs to make a sneaky good move, regardless of it involves Marner or not. If Gustavsson can find some more consistency in net, he could potentially be a big upgrade on Ilya Samsonov, giving the Leafs a rock-solid tandem of Woll and Gustavsson. If they are able to add a young former 8th overall pick at the same time, that would just be the icing on the cake.
