After another disappointing playoff exit, the Toronto Maple Leafs may be looking to make big changes this summer, with Head Coach Craig Berube looking to make his mark on his new team. Now, one suggestion has sparked the minds of Maple Leafs fans and analysts, with the link now being made between Mitch Marner and the newly formed Utah Hockey Club.
On paper, this is a deal that could make sense for both parties, as it gives the Utah Hockey Club an established name to lead the way, while giving Toronto a potential star of the future down the middle, that could potentially perform better than Marner if given the opportunity in the playoffs. In his rookie campaign, Cooley put up 20 goals and 44 points in 82 games played, and while it may be unclear if the Utah Hockey Club would move him, this would certainly be a major splash just months into their existence.
Marner to Utah has been a discussion since Toronto failed to escape the first round and since the conception of Utah as a result of expansion from Arizona, and it appears the whispers are growing louder.
At this point, there's many unknowns surrounding this situation, but if both teams want to make a splash, this would be an interesting option.
