Every Leafs fan is patiently waiting for updates on Auston Matthews and William Nylander's extension negotiations.

Of course, we're only in July, so both players aren't in a hurry to get this done, especially since they still have a year left on their contracts.

However, it feels like it could have already been dealt with. Why hasn't it happened yet?

There's actually been a major setback in the negotiations.

It appears that both players want to stay, and one of them seems ready to accept a lower salary to help the team.

What a logical decision, considering winning is the most important thing for many players.

But it's not that simple.

Childish Games

Elliotte Friedman reported that Nylander won't accept a lower salary unless the others (Matthews) do so. And Matthews won't sign before the other has signed.

Instead of playing these childish games, they should just accept a lower salary to have the best possible team.

How can you create a positive atmosphere when you have these guys in your locker room? Matthews' talent compensates for this, but Nylander's doesn't.

A few teams have already understood that you need true team spirit to win, with no attitude problems in the roster.

Treliving seems to understand this. He acquired Ryan Reaves, Max Domi, and Tyler Bertuzzi, three great leaders. Now, he needs to get rid of the dead weight by trading Nylander.

Do you think Nylander should be traded?
