It seems there has been a major change on the future of Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner, according to a new report.

According to former NHLer and host of the popular Hockey podcast, 'Spittin Chiclets', Paul Bissonnette, the Leafs may be reversing from previously reported plans to offload the winger in a trade, with the potential being that Marner may stay in Toronto after all, and as well potentially long-term.
According to Bissonnette on a recent episode of the 'Spittin Chiclets' podcast, he says that he's heard the Toronto Maple Leafs are ready to bring back Marner, and to also sign him to an extension. Bissonnette said the team is negotiating his next contract, likely with Marner's agent, Darren Ferris.
This contradicts other reports that have indicated that Marner, an unrestricted free agent at the end of next season, would likely be traded by the Leafs. While the move doesn't guarantee Marner stays, it's a very different development than what's been reported in recent weeks on his future in the league.
Marner, a childhood Toronto Maple Leafs fan, has expressed his desire to stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it wasn't made clear if he would sign an extension to do so in the past.
Marner, 27, scored 26 goals, 59 assists & 85 points in 69 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in this past season.
