For months now, Mitch Marner has been heavily involved in trade rumours with the Toronto Maple Leafs, as has New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba. Now, one intriguing trade proposal has emerged that would connect the two and see them swap teams between Eastern Conference powerhouses.
On the surface, this may seem like a fleece of a deal for the Rangers, but in the deal, the Maple Leafs would allow themselves to get a further $3.8 million in cap space, giving them extra flexibility while adding a game changer on the blue line.
As for New York, they give themselves yet another star in the forward group, while not having to give up a first-round pick, and given the rumours of connections to several blue liners around the league, this would allow them the flexibility to make another big deal.
Ultimately though, if Brad Treliving and the Maple Leafs decide to move Mitch Marner they could likely get more future assets, and given both players having a no-trade clause in their contracts, there would need to be plenty of moving pieces to make this deal work.
