The Toronto Maple Leafs are in need of a veteran coach to help them take the step, but now a former Rangers manager has officially been eliminated from contention.

After moving on from Sheldon Keefe, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to many Head Coaches, with all providing intriguing potential as the next man in charge. Now, it has been revealed that Gerard Gallant, who was last seen taking the New York Rangers to the Eastern Conference Finals has officially been eliminated from contention to land the coveted role, according to Sportsnet's Luke Fox.

Hearing Gerard Gallant has not yet interviewed for Maple Leafs coaching job. He is keen to get back in the NHL.

Despite the interest from Gallant to get back behind the bench, Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the job is down to two; Craig Berube and Todd McClellan, one of whom has already interviewed with the other expecting to do so this week.

At this point, Berube remains the firm favourite to land the role given his Stanley Cup winning experience, but given the high profile nature of the role, it's safe to say that anything could still happen.
