Toronto has a game at home against Minnesota but Brad Treliving will be watching from afar, as the Leafs GM was spotted scouting some potential future pieces.

In the day to day affairs of an NHL GM, there's no shortage of work to be done whether it's figuring out the best pieces to bring in for the playoffs, managing injuries, and not to mention the constant need to keep a close eye on everything around the world of hockey.

Which is why you'll often see scouts and assistants take the role of representative when needed to view future talent, but for Maple Leafs head honcho Brad Treliving; he prefers to do it on his own.

Brad Treliving Scouting OHL Teams For Potential Trade Or Draft Assets

Treliving making an appearance at the Owen Sound Attack and Erie Otters game is par for the course, and Toronto doesn't have a high enough pick to select names like Matthew Schaefer or Malcolm Spence but he could be looking at two others.

Firstly, Owen Sound's Harry Nansi, a 6'3 center who currently has 16 points in 44 games for the Attack. He fits the profile for Treliving's style of player. Not the strongest skater, he's a horse on the ice and works constantly at both ends of the ice.

In October's NHL Central Scouting list, Nansi was given a 'C' ranking which would place him roughly in the fourth/fifth round range which falls right into Toronto's lap with their later round selections (granted if they still have them after the deadline).

With Toronto's center depth already thin, taking a flyer on a player who has the offensive skillset and is good enough defensively that with some extra work and added muscle; could be a solid Top 9 player in the NHL.

Another name who was listed on the rankings who could make a potential impact is Gabriel Smith, another 6'3 skater but this time, a blueliner.

With Toronto's defense being on the older side, and questions regarding other prospects who don't necessarily fit with the team, Smith could be the perfect replacement.

Though he only has one goal and one assist in 41 games for the Attack this season, he's still an offensively gifted puck mover who uses his size and strength to control the zone.

The Brampton, ON native would be close to home, and his ranking of 'W' on the Central Scouting list means his worth is valued at a sixth/seventh rounder. Toronto has both of those picks, and the chance to draft a potential two-way stud in the late rounds is a steal for Treliving.

While the true nature of his visit is unknown, Treliving is doing his homework at least when it comes to Toronto's future. Now it's just time to get the rest of this season worked on.
