Over the weekend, the final word on the Maple Leafs arbitration hearing with Ilya Samsonov was revealed at $3.35 million, which to most fans spells the end of a veteran goaltender as a Maple Leaf.

Murray still a Maple Leaf?

Much to the surprise of many Toronto fans, there was no activity on the waiver wire today, despite the belief that veteran goaltender Matt Murray would be bought out today.

There's a good reason for this however, as there is a 3-day delay in between the time the settlement/award is announced and the time the 48-hour buyout window opens.

What does this mean for his future?

What this means for Matt Murray is that the Leafs now have a few days to officially make a move with the two-time Stanley Cup winner, or they will eventually have to buy him out.

The former is much preferable for Toronto, as it would help them avoid the $2 million in dead cap space, but with an $8 million salary for the upcoming season, General Manager Brad Treliving is going to need a very big sweetener to make that happen.
