Maple Leafs' Ryan Reaves receives massive criticism in recent report
Ryan Reaves has just been given a massive blow in a new report outlining his performance thus far this season. Find out below what grade he was given for his play.
Ryan Reaves was one of the first major signings for Brad Treliving in his first year as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and things aren't shaking out as the new GM would have hoped. Reaves has struggled to secure a foothold in the Leafs' lineup and has found himself scratched over the last few weeks.
Now, a new report has come out grading the Leafs' performances the first half of the season, and Reaves has been dealt another blow. His grade? A D-. Here's the reason why, according to Jonas Siegel of the Athletic.
«The path to playing time feels even murkier now than before, what with the fourth line finding an identity with McMann in there alongside Gregor and Kämpf. The Rangers had similar issues with Reaves last season (they were filled in when he was out there) and eventually dealt him to Minnesota. Is there a market for him again with two more years left on his contract and his 37th birthday ahead later this week? Will he end up on waivers?»
Ryan Reaves in no man land For the Toronto Maple Leafs this season
Reaves has found himself in a troubling position this year with the Leafs, since he hasn't been able to get a spot in the lineup. The Leafs could elect to place him on waivers, however, his $1.5 million AAV with 2 years left on his deal isn't too enticing for anyone. What is more likely is the Leafs will have to pay him to play for the Marlies, which is unfortunate given their tight cap situation.
We will see how Brad Treliving can respond to his first poor signing in the coming weeks ahead of the trade deadline.
