The massive trade that's brewing is thanks to @CapWages on X, which has Mitch Marner of the Leafs being sent to the Boston Bruins for Charlie McAvoy. It's a simple one for one trade, which would significantly help both teams more than people believe.
The Leafs have tremendous offensive firepower, but where they slightly lack skill is on the back end. Toronto would be able to fill in Marner's spot with other skilled players in their lineup, but adding McAvoy on the blue line would be all the difference maker for them.
The main thing that could be stopping a trade like this from happening is the amount of bad blood and hatred between the two teams due to on and off ice rivalries
The Bruins lost some players this off-season and many experts are predicting a drop off in total points for the team. Adding a player like Marner would surely help quiet those haters.
The problem is, the Bruins love how stable McAvoy makes their defense, and would be hard pressed giving up on a player like him. This would make their blue line much weaker without him.
It's very possible that Marner will be traded by the Leafs if they cannot come to a contract extension agreement, however it is highly unlikely that the return player will ever be Charlie McAvoy.
