Max Domi opens up on if he wants to sign with the Maple Leafs
Max Domi opened up on if he wants to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs this summer in a recent interview.
Domi's one-year contract is set to end in the off-season and the player shared his thoughts on what he'd like to do next season.
He stated that he wants to come back in Toronto, to be a part of their plans in the long run:
"I enjoyed every second of it. Didn't take it for granted, that's for sure. Do I want to come back? Absolutely. I think this team has everything it takes to do something special and I would love to help them do that."
Domi has been a Leafs fan all his life, with his father, Tie, playing for Toronto when Max was a kid. For him, nothing beats playing for the Leafs, except winning with them:
"There's nothing like playing in the NHL, other than playing for the Maple Leafs. You can't beat it, especially growing up in Toronto. The only way to surpass that would be to win here. I know I keep talking about it. But that's really all we care about in this locker room, is finding a way to win."
As for the contract negotiations, term and salary, he's not too involved in the process, as he focuses on his game:
"All that stuff is over my head. The playing side of it is my part. Let my agent (Judd Moldaver) take it and see what happens."
In the same interview, Domi also opened up on the tough loss against Boston and how his group acted when they were down 3-1 in the series:
"You have to give a lot of credit to Boston. I know everyone wants to talk about us, and of course we can all be better, we know that."
"You have to tip your cap to them as a group. They're a good hockey team, well-coached and they didn't give us much. They had us in bit of a hole with being down 3-1. As a group, we showed a lot of character. It would have been very easy just to accept that and not one guy did."
"When you get to Game 7, especially in overtime, anything can happen. We'd love to still be playing right now."
Since he signed his contract last summer, Domi instantly became a fan-favourite in Toronto, and there's no doubt that fans would love to see him with the Leafs again next season.
