Mitch Marner confronts media speculation over Boston injury
This afternoon the Toronto media got an opportunity to hear from Leafs forward Mitch Marner for the first time since his injury. The interview got heated when Mitch Marner answered a specific question.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been without Mitch Marner for several weeks now. An injury that was originally thought to be day-to-day for Mitch Marner turned into week-to-week. Today Mitch Marner returned to practice for the first time with the Maple Leafs.

After practice, the Toronto media was allowed to speak with Mitch Marner. What started as an easy welcome-back interview became confrontational between the two sides quickly.
Mitch Marner gives controversial answer about his injury to the media
During the interview with Mitch Marner, he was asked about the specific injury he suffered and how he got hurt. This seemed to bother Mitch Marner and he remarked on the coverage of his injury.
Mitch Marner on how he got hurt in that game in Boston:
"I've been watching every game. You guys have been talking about it every single game. I think you guys can say whatever you want. It's behind me now. Stuff happened and you just go on from it."
This quote from Mitch Marner has sparked debate. Many fans feel that the secrecy and anger from him over his injury is unwarranted. Others understand why he and the Maple Leafs might want this information to be kept close to the vest.
My initial reaction was this is a really odd quote. After watching the full press conference, it still is a weird quote.
But I think most are taking it slight out of context. Marner made other similar comments during the interview. It seems he does not want to admit it is an ankle injury.
My take is Marner was saying that the media is speculating on what his injury is. Keefe also has been very vague on the Marner injury. I wonder if the Leafs want to avoid providing a target for their opponents heading into playoffs.
As of now, Mitch Marner is not back in the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup. As his return continues to come closer it will be interesting to see if the team releases any more information on the injury he suffered.
