A new PuckPedia user trade proposal brings Anaheim Ducks forward half-retained Frank Vatrano to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Nick Robertson and David Kampf.
Frank Vatrano has had a relatively unusual career in the NHL so far. He was a lower-production forward who got shuffled around the league. Soon, he recorded 18 goals and 32 total points in 72 games in the 2021-22 regular season split between the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers. This was enough for the Anaheim Ducks to sign the left wing to a three-year contract worth nearly $12 million.
However, there has been discussion that Frank Vatrano has become part of trade rumor circles, leading many Toronto Maple Leafs fans to keep their eye out for solid deals. One PuckPedia user submitted their ideal trade for the forward. This would send Nick Robertson and David Kampf to the Anaheim Ducks for Frank Vatrano half-retained.
David Kampf scored 9 goals and 19 points in 78 games last season. Nick Robertson added 14 goals and 27 points in 56 games, providing some extra value. Nick Robertson has also shown an express desire to be traded, making a deal with the player simpler to negotiate.
However, Frank Vatrano just had his career-best regular season, recording 37 goals and 60 total points playing all 82 games. Why would the Anaheim Ducks want to trade a player on their best year with only one season before free agency, while also having to pay part of their salary?
