Keefe had a multi-year contract kicking in during the 2024-25 season meaning he can collect a paycheque and watch from home for a couple of seasons.
Paul Bissonnette took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise Sheldon Keefe for doing a good job during his tenure as Leafs head coach.
Bissonnette also revealed in his message that the New Jersey Devils are seemingly the frontrunners to land Craig Berube, but most know that Berube could've had the job months ago after Lindy Ruff's firing.
Minutes later, Bissonnette said that his gut says that the Toronto Maple Leafs will land Craig Berube.
I think the difference between the two posts is Bissonnette forgot about his reference to make Berube crack a smile about the Leafs coaching job on the TNT panel.
Sheldon Keefe led the Leafs to some incredible regular seasons, but the team fell apart in the playoffs and his seemingly endless leash was finally too long. Bissonnette, who never played for Keefe, praised Keefe for his work up until his firing.
