Despite a disappointing first-round exit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs saw a solid performance from Joseph Woll in net, with some suggestions that he could be their starter for the future. However, the Leafs are set up to win now, and with some solid young pieces to potentially use in a blockbuster deal, it makes sense if they would target a star goalie to help their Stanley Cup push.
With many names expected to be available this summer, there's plenty of options for Toronto, but in a recent piece, reporter Nick Alberga has revealed the three names that the Maple Leafs should be targeting. Those three are Filip Gustavsson of the Minnesota Wild, Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators and Linus Ullmark of the Boston Bruins.
With so much money tied up in their forward group, it raises concerns about their willingness to overpay for big time goaltending, but with Mitch Marner and John Tavares potentially on the way out, it could make a move much easier. Ultimately, if the Maple Leafs want to make a Stanley Cup run, they need better goaltending, so while they may need to give up a young piece that they would prefer not too, that's the price you need to pay to chase hockey's ultimate prize.
