Former Maple Leaf and current Predator Ryan O'Reilly attempted to convince GM Barry Trotz to go and acquire Mitch Marner via trade before his free agent splurge.

The Nashville Predators stayed busy during the NHL free agency where they added former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and Conn Smythe winner from the Vegas Golden Knights Jonathan Marchessault, among many others.

However, before the mayhem, Ryan O'Reilly reached out to rookie GM Barry Trotz to try and acquire his former teammate Mitchell Marner from the Toronto Maple Leafs, a new report has emerged.

«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, eq-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said.

With the NHL draft concluded, a Mitch Marner trade is beginning to seem very unlikely, and it seems like he will begin the season as a Maple Leaf as he enters the final year of his contract.
