He didn't play a lot, and couldn't build any momentum at his first season with the Maple Leafs.
Now, with Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll in his rearview mirror, his future is uncertain in Toronto.
As we reported earlier, it will be difficult for Brad Treliving to trade Matt Murray, considering his injury history and his salary.
To do it, they'll need to retain salary of send picks.
They don't have a lot of picks in the first place, so retaining money is probably how it's going to go down.
Trading him would also free some cap space, which is what the Leafs need right now.
But hey can also buy him out. However, they'll have to deal with a cap penalty for two seasons.

Trading him while retaining his salary would have a lesser impact than buying him out, so that's probably what Brad Treliving will do.
According to Kevin Papetti:
Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll will probably be the trusted tandem for next year. Samsonov already mentionned his intentions to stay long-term in Toronto, and Woll, still young, would make a great number two until he grows enough to take the number one seat.
