Leafs fans have been able to get a brief glance at top prospect Matthew Knies, and he hasn't looked out of place following a successful college career at Minnesota.
Now, Knies looks to be a factor for Toronto's playoff run, hoping to spark a change in luck of a team that hasn't made it past the first round since 2004.
No one seems to know right now where Knies will slot in, if he plays in the Leafs first round match against Tampa Bay, but a likely scenario is evident if he does.
According to Maple Leafs Insider, the case is made for the third line to be the best spot for Knies.
Knies, who has already played on the third line along with two of Noel Acciari, Ryan O'Reilly & Alex Kerfoot.
Maple Leafs Insider also notes the chemistry Knies and O'Reilly had in their brief time together on the ice, and having a strong presence in Acciari will help the younger Knies.
The Leafs could play Knies on the 2nd line, but may want to wait to see how the youngster produces early on in the series before making a big decision on their series against the Lightning.
It's unlikely the Leafs will leave the talented Knies off their playoff roster, but if he plays,
Toronto will look to have the best players available for the skills they hope he will provide.
