When Auston Matthews returns to the Maple Leafs it will be a huge boost to the entire team, but the team is positive once he does come back he'll have zero issues.

It's been a weird week for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After winning three straight against Boston, Detroit, and Montreal, they got stomped into the dirt by Ottawa in a big wake-up call.

They responded with a ridiculous 4-3 OT comeback win against the Washington Capitals led by John Tavares' heroics:

This was all done without Auston Matthews too, as the Maple Leafs' captain has been out with an undisclosed upper-body injury that has kept him out since Nov 3 and has led to him going on the IR.

He was seen skating in a positive sign, but unfortunately hasn't played and is still dealing with this nagging issue.

This nagging issue though is one that the Maple Leafs aren't too concerned about long-term.

The team is so confident in Matthews' recovery that they not only believe he'll be healthy, but it'll not be an issue going forward:

It could be something that wasn't necessarily bothering Matthews at first but as the season progressed got to a point where it actively affected his performance.

While he is being asked to play more defensively, there is something odd about Matthews only having five goals so far and not being the electric offensive dynamo he's known for.

If this recovery timeframe allows him to be healthy not only for the short-term but to prevent any issues in this season and the next, it will be a massive boost to Toronto's Stanley Cup push.

The Maple Leafs already have a weird schedule and it's been both a blessing and a curse for them and Matthews.

They need as much time as they can get, and giving their captain the comfort of knowing not only can they win without him, he can get as much rest as possible and the team isn't in a spot to rush him back.

While it's not completely known what the injury exactly is, if the Maple Leafs are confident that Matthews can avoid something serious and get over whatever is ailing him then fans should hold tight and wait before getting too worried about their superstar staying on the shelf.
