Chris Johnston of 'The Athletic' & TSN says Robertson, who is a Restricted Free Agent, has requested a trade out of Toronto, informing the team of his desire to be moved on from.
The 22-year-old Robertson, once considered a top prospect in Toronto's development system, has struggled to find consistent minutes with the Toronto Maple Leafs throughout his career. Brother of Dallas Stars star Jason Robertson, Nick has not received the same opportunity in terms of ice time in Toronto under Sheldon Keefe, and appears poised to skip a potential change in Craig Berube.
Futher complicating Robertson's status is fellow forwards and current Leafs top prospects Easton Cowan, Fraser Minten & Nikita Grebenkin, all of whom could potentially overtake Robertson on the team's depth chart, some possibly as soon as next season. Robertson appears to have his focus on a chance elsewhere, with Toronto having a crowded lineup.
Robertson had his best season so far with the Leafs, with 14 goals, 13 assists & 27 points in 56 games. Robertson previously had just 7 points in 31 games in his first three NHL seasons.
Robertson was a second round pick of Toronto in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, 53rd overall.
