Toronto Maple Leafs sign prospect Cade Webber to a two-year contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs secured one of their prospects today when they signed Boston University defenseman Cade Webber to a standard, entry-level contract for two years.
The Leafs announced the move via social media this afternoon. Webber was initially a Carolina Hurricanes prospect. The Canes drafted Webber in the 4th round of the 2019 draft after a point-per-game season playing in US high school.
BREAKING: The are signing D prospect Cade Webber to a 2-year entry-level contract with the club that begins now.
Drafted 2019 4th round, had 6 pts in 38 GP for Boston University. Acquired from Carolina in March for a 2026 6th.
Since he was drafted, Webber's offensive game has remained questionable at best. He had just 16 points across four seasons of NCAA hockey, including six helpers this season. Needless to say, he won't be scoring many points at the NHL level.
However, the 6'6" defenseman can play physical and defend reasonably well. Perhaps this may be enough to get him into some NHL action at some point in the future with the Leafs.
