The Ottawa Senators thought they had a key piece of their team solidified in Brady Tkachuk, but that may no longer be the case.

The 2023-24 season has been another major disappointment for the Ottawa Senators, especially for a team that expected to compete for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot this year. Unfortunately, their core group just hasn't performed, and with issues on the ice in recent times, it has reportedly led the organization to consider trading captain Brady Tkachuk.

"I hear that, I don't believe he ever asked for a trade. I was told he never asked for a trade, but I heard from some people, as recent as this past weekend that Ottawa kind of kicked the tires a little bit like 'what can we get? What would we get for Brady Tkachuk?'"

While moving Tkachuk certainly would still come as a shock, the fact that the Senators have even kicked the tires on this potential move makes this summer very intriguing for this roster. Despite the talented veterans like Claude Giroux on this team, they just aren't close to competing, so if they want to prolong their rebuild with some other young pieces, many trades could be coming.

Along with Tkachuk and Giroux, the team could look to a player like Jakob Chychrun as a potential trade candidate, and while their GM has denied reports that they looked to move their captain at the deadline, where there is smoke, there's often fire. This team could go many different ways this upcoming summer, including adding more veterans to make a push, but if the team don't believe they can compete, with Tkachuk signed until the end of the 2027-28 season, he becomes a huge trade piece for them.
