Today the Toronto Maple Leafs have made an interesting hire to the front office replacing a member of the team that former GM Kyle Dubas stole away.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced today the hiring of Mark Leach as the team's new Director of Amateur Scouting.

We've hired Mark Leach as the team's Director of Amateur Scouting

The move comes after the Maple Leafs lost their former Director of Amateur Scouting Wes Clarke who was poached by former Maple Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas.

He was put into a role called Vice President of Player Personnel with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Penguins have named Wes Clark Vice President of Player Personnel.

Clark will oversee the club's amateur, professional and college/European free agent scouting departments and will report directly to Kyle Dubas.

As for the new addition for the Toronto Maple Leafs Mark Leach joins the team from the Dallas Stars. In recent years, the Dallas Stars have been known as one of the best drafting teams in the NHL, grabbing late first-round steals like Jason Robertson, the brother of Maple Leafs prospect Nick Robertson.

During Mark Leach's tenure, they have also drafted players like superstar goalie Jake Oettinger, Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, the top prospect in their system currently Logan Stankoven, and breakout player for the Dallas Stars Wyatt Johnston.

Per release, "Leach worked directly with the Stars' Director of Amateur Scouting to oversee the Club's successful drafting efforts"

Dallas has drafted the likes of Jason Robertson, Jake Oettinger, Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven, Thomas Harley, and Mavrik Bourque in recent years

When the Toronto Maple Leafs lost out on Wes Clarke many were worried the quality of the Maple Leafs scouting department would dip significantly. With the hiring of Mark Leach not only should the Maple Leafs scouting staff continue to thrive there is real hope for further improvement with the track record of Mark Leach's former team.
