Reports have stated that the Michigan-born Trouba has the Red Wings on his no-trade list, with the defenseman having blocked a potential move from New York to Detroit.
The move could open up a possible move to Trouba to Toronto with the Maple Leafs reportedly planning to move out a high-priced asset in Mitch Marner and a need for adding a veteran defenseman in the system.
Past speculation indicated Trouba as a potential fit in Toronto, but if he would actually accept a trade, or a trade even happening between the Leafs and Rangers, there are no reports of any deal proposed or finalized at this time. The Rangers would likely want young key assets in return.
Trouba has expressed his desire to not leave the Rangers, with his wife Dr. Kelly Tyson-Trouba, a physician, currently in a medical residency in New York. Trouba, who has a 16-team no-trade list, has reportedly stated he does not wish to move to another city without his wife, who is uncertain to be able to secure another residency elsewhere.
Trouba, 30, had 3 goals, 19 assists & 22 points in 69 games for the New York Rangers in the 2023-24 NHL season, along with a goal and 7 assists in 16 playoff games.
